2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 Gartner Magic Quadrants

IBM software placed "First" in the following categories in 2003:

  • IBM WebSphere® Portal - Horizontal Portal
  • WebSphere Application Server
  • WebSphere Business Integration
  • Web Services
  • e-Commerce

In 2004, WebSphere Portal remained at the top of the chart and, out of twenty separate portal offerings, was one of only six vendors categorized as having an application platform suite (APS), smart enterprise suite (SES), and a horizontal portal.

In 2005 and 2006, WebSphere Portal continued to lead the competition. In Gartner's report titled "Magic Quadrant for Horizontal Portal Products, 2006" published on 16 May 2006, Gartner positioned IBM in the leaders quadrant once again. Gartner positions vendors in a particular market segment based on their completeness of vision and ability to execute that vision. According to Gartner, leaders are performing well today, have a clear vision of market direction and are actively building competencies to sustain their leadership position in the market.

IBM wins the Intelligent Enterprise Readers Choice award for "Best Portal Platform" (November 2005)

IDC Ranks WebSphere Portal Number One in Worldwide Market Share for Enterprise Portals

IBM announced in October 2005, that IBM WebSphere® Portal has been named the industry's number one enterprise portal product by a top market analyst firm. According to IDC, IBM has the highest percentage of worldwide portal market share for 2004 based on software license and maintenance revenue, which is more than 10 percent higher than the closest competitor.
